Thank you for stopping by the blog today!

If your thinking about owning a puppy there are a few
questions you should ask yourself first before committing to
a long term relationship with one of mans best fury friends.

Should you own a puppy?

I have compiled a list of the top three questions that my expert is ask from customers and friends from over the last 20 plus
years, since she has been in business.

Here are your top 3 puppy questions answered.

Q. Do puppies require a time commitment from their owners?

A. Yes, puppies require a time commitment from their owners.
Even as puppies they are pack animals and do not like to be
left alone for extended periods of time. You and your family
members become your puppies pack. However, if you (the
Alpha) is someone that works a lot of hours or who leaves
for the office at 6AM and comes back at 10PM, you may want
to rethink owning a puppy. This is not the ideal situation
for your growing puppy. Even frequent travelers have to make
arrangements for boarding their puppy when they are gone,
which can be an added expense to your budget. Even if
suitable arrangements can be made, no puppy wants to spend
half it's life somewhere else, they want to be with you with
his pack.

Q. How important is training and socializing a puppy?

       A. Very important. Time must be spent training and
socializing your puppy if you want them to grow into a well
behaved dog This way they can be a good member of the
community and your family pack.  Your dog must be under
control when he meets new people, on walks through the
neighborhood, or when guests come to your home.  Successful
training requires patience, consistency-and time. A poorly
trained puppy can be disruptive to a household. And if
poorly socialized can be a hazard for children and other
dogs he might encounter. In many cases, it is beneficial for
the dog and owner to attend organized obedience training
classes.

Q. How much maintenance is required to care for a puppy?

A: Puppy care can vary in the amount of maintenance
they require depending on the breed and special needs. Most
puppies need to have their coats brushed or groomed (in some
cases such as an Old English Sheepdog care may require
several hours of grooming per week). They need their teeth
brushed regularly. Most puppy breeds need some kind of daily
exercise, some need long walks or runs daily or twice daily
to keep them contented. They need the stimulation of play as
well, whether it is a simple game of fetch or more formal
activities such as entering agility training.  Most breeds
must have their ears cleaned regularly. And don't forget
baths!

The bottom line is does your lifestyle allow you enough
time to properly care for your puppy, well beyond just
feeding, playing, or a quick walk around the block when you
get home from work?

At last, you finally know the TRUTH
about owning and caring for a puppy. And that means that you
can now answer for yourself and more confidently, should I
own a puppy?
